Off-grid Home, Full-time Family Residence

No power lines to interrupt the skyline. This home in the mountains near Snowbasin Ski Resort is completely off the electrical grid and must provide all its own power. This family home sits atop Trappers Loop, the highway that connects Ogden Valley and Mountain Green in Northern Utah. Trappers Loop is the gateway to Snowbasin Resort, site of the 2002 Winter Olympics downhill races. However, because of its isolated location, the home is completely off the electrical grid and needs to produce all its own power. It does this through a large Trace solar panel.

The back deck overlooks the Morgan Valley in Utah
Construction was finished and the owners moved in just in time for the 2002 Winter Olympics; one of the Olympic venues, Snowbasin Resort, is their front view. The sad fact is that no home attached to power lines could possibly have such a view.

Pole mounted solar electric panels are set a distance of 200 from the house, and are largely unnoticeable when viewed from the house. The small shed next to the propane tanks houses the battery bank and back up generator. Notice that no power lines interrupt the vista.
