SEEKING APPLICANTS FOR RENEWABLE ENERGY PROJECTS

Rocky Mountain Power is seeking applicants to receive funds for renewable energy projects

Do you have a bright idea for making the region a little greener? Could you use a little green to make your project a reality? Rocky Mountain Power is offering help to get new renewable energy projects off the ground in Utah, Wyoming and southeastern Idaho through its Blue Sky funding award program.

Renewable energy projects eligible for funding awards from Rocky Mountain Power may include those that support technologies such as wind, solar, biomass, wave, landfill gas, low-impact hydro and geothermal. To be considered, interested parties must complete an application and submit it along with supporting materials by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, May 1, 2007.

"We’re honored to be able to offer these funding awards to help bring community-based renewable energy projects in our service area to reality," said Karen Gilmore, Rocky Mountain Power vice president of customer services. "We look forward to seeing this round of applications and selecting projects that demonstrate significant community benefit for our customers."

Applications can be found at www.rockymtnpower.net/blueskyfunds or requested by e-mailing blueskyprojects@rockymtnpower.net . Entries should be thorough, and should be submitted with supporting materials such as photographs, schematics, drawings, cut sheets, narratives or anything the applicant considers useful in the project evaluation. Materials may be submitted by mail, fax or e-mail to:

The amount available for funding awards will vary year to year. It comes from Rocky Mountain Power’s Blue Sky Block program, where customers can purchase 100-kilowatt-hour increments of renewable energy to help encourage the development of new clean energy in the region. The growth of the Blue Sky program has already helped support small and medium-sized community-based renewable energy projects that may not otherwise be viable, going beyond the wind energy purchases made on behalf of Blue Sky customers.

Most recently, the company awarded funds to the city of Moab, Park City, Westminster College, Entheos Academy and Tracy Aviary for solar and wind power projects in Utah. Information on these projects is available at www.rockymtnpower.net/blueskyfunds.

For the past several years, Rocky Mountain Power’s Blue Sky program has ranked in the top 10 utility "green pricing programs" by the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory. Last year, the company was second in the nation for the number of customers buying renewable power, and third for green power sales volume, both for the second consecutive year. Currently, 52,000 Rocky Mountain Power and Pacific Power customers are participating in Blue Sky.
